People tend to imagine that once you become an established act you loose all nerves when it comes to live shows. From my experienced there isn’t anything else even further from the truth in terms of misconceptions towards musicians. For example take this scenario; a sunny Saturday afternoon and pop/punk veterans New Found Glory are playing a headlining show. Fans come in droves to see the act perform but of course before they can they’ll have to watch an opening act. This is where the Fun (literally) comes in.

The traffic was mental, but for a free gig at The Piazza At Schmidts’s courtyard; the event was part of a free concert series called Winter Jam which was being hosted by local radio station Radio 104.5. The crowd for the gig was already near capacity by the time me and my friends arrived and to add more tension the crowd was clearly restless in anticipation. Shortly after our arrival the five members that make up Fun. took the stage and wasted no time with operation: win over the crowd.

Front-man Nate Ruess effortlessly utilized his skills as a vocalist while filling the gigantic courtyard with harmonies while his fellow bandmates did what they did best. Guitarist Jack Antonoff could be seem moving about frantically throughout the entire set, never missing a chord. The band played a short set but showcased tracks off their upcoming sophomore album Some Nights. A grand moment was when the band performed one of the singles off of Some Nights, titled “We Are Young” and most of the fans of New Found Glory weren’t only jumping about but singing along to the track as though it was a long remembered anthem. Mission accomplished Fun.
